The Families of the Comer Campus...
Our principal just got the word from the person in charge of our lunch system here about the following. I figure it's an interesting snap shot of the Comer Campus families so I thought we'd share it with you all.
We have 6 kids in the "denied" category. Our families in this category have an average household size of 3 people with an avg household income of $42,000.
We have 17 families in the "reduced" category. Their average household size is 4 with avg income of $27,800.
We have 89 "free" families, avg size of 4 people, avg income of $12,700.
Comer's overall tally of family size and income is avg of 4 in the house with annual income of $16,000.
I found it as a serious point of reflection. Does anyone else get the opportunity to see/share facts like this about your service sites?

I do. 77% of our famlies at LEO fall into the very low income category as defined by HUD for the city of Oakland. For example a family of 4 must make under $41,000. And while $41,000 may sound like a lot, besides NYC, the Bay Area is the most expensive place to live in the country.

I don't know what the avg. income for our students families are, but I do know that 11 out of our 12 boys qualify for free lunch and the 12th student qualifies for reduced lunch.
