A Reflection from Retreat

Hey folks, I thought I'd share something I wrote during our reflection period at debriefing. Also I wanted to ask a favor. If anyone took photos could you pretty please share them on flickr, snapfish, facebook, or on here! Those of us who don't own or forgot to bring a camera would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Untitled prose/poem

What had I to offer?

I stood broken-hearted before a broken world
But I offered up my heart - what remained of it

I had two empty hands
      bereft of jewelery
      admittedly unused to labor
but I stretched them forth
      and dipped them into
the sea of sorrow of a suffering humanity

Lord, I prayed, Make use of these hands
my God, May my heart not be crushed, I begged

I thought this was to be a year of sacrifice
I braced myself for a new struggle
but a struggle that would reap fruit, I hoped

Initially, yes, there was sacrifice, there was struggle
But sacrifice was quickly replaced by gifts
and struggle gave way to peace

Unexpectedly, quietly, healing took place

Each smile of my students
dropped a seed into the soil of my heart
Daily prayer was the gentle rain
which fell regularly, refreshing my soul
and Hours of conversation and laughter
with my community warmed and baked
the soil that once was tepid

The seeds have sprung into a splendid garden
which in turn gives seed manifold
The waters of prayer and Eucharist fed a stream
which runs deeply round the greenery
The sunshine has set free a spirit
once held hostage by the past

I did not expect to make peace with myself
I did not hope to be happy, nor find that
I needed my students as much as they needed me

These things I discovered and now a psalm echoes through my days:
They go out, they go out full of weeping
They come back, their mouths full of laughter.

Bay to the Breakers cont.

Does anyone know why Katie's hand swelled like this?

The salmon "swimming" upstream.

As soon as we'd pass one naked guy, there would be 5 more in front of us.

Kristin, LEO's new LV, went with us slackers that walked/ran.

Those that ran.

Chicago Marathon ain't got nothin on San Francisco!

Hey Guys!

Yesterday was the 96th Bay to the Breakers 12k. It's known for being one of the craziest races in the nation - lots of drinking, costumes, no costumes, nudity and well, just about anything you can think of. All of us LVs in the Bay Area, past, present and future, decided to run or walk it. So I invite anyone who is interested in joining us next year to come on out! Always the 3rd weekend in May. Enjoy the photos!

Tortilla throwing and waitin to start runnin!

The Kings are back.

I hope....

"I Hope"
-Dixie Chicks
Sunday morning, I heard the preacher say
Thou shall not kill
I don't wanna hear nothing else about killing
And that it's God's will
'Cause our children are watching us
They put their trust in us
They're gonna be like us
So let's learn from our history
And do it differently
I hope, for more love, more joy and laughter
I hope, we'll have more than we'll ever need
I hope, we'll have more happy ever after
I hope, we can all live more fearlessly
And we can lose all the pain and misery
I hope, I hope
Oh, Rosie, her man he gets too rough
That's all she can say, is he's a good man
He don't mean no harm
He was just brought up that way
But our children are watching us
They put their trust in us
They're gonna be like us
It's okay for us to disagree
We can work it out lovingly
I hope, for more love, more joy and laughter
I hope, you'll have more than we'll ever need
I hope, you'll have more happy ever after
I hope, you can all live more fearlessly
And you can lose all the pain and misery
I hope, I hope
There must be a way to change what's going on
No I don't have all the answers
I hope, for more love, more joy and laughter
I hope, we'll have more than we'll ever need
I hope, we'll have more happy ever after
I hope, we can all live more fearlessly
And we can lose all the pain and misery
I hope, I hope
I hope, I hope, I hope

I'm IN!

Some of you may not know (ok...about 97% of you), so let it be made public that...

I got into Temple University's International MBA Program!

That means I get to start my studies in Paris in the middle of September for 4 months, then come back to the US/Philadelphia for another 6 months, then jet off to Tokyo for 6 weeks and then Shanghai for a week (during their Olympics!). I am totally psyched and looking forward to it. I was told that 1000 applications get submitted to this program and 40 people get in...Go me! And in the end, I get a degree from the school in Paris (ENPC) AND from Philly's Temple!

The École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC) ("National School of Bridges and Roads"), with an enrollment of 1,200 and often referred to as les Ponts, is the world's oldest engineering school. The Temple Program is one of its three most popular courses of study. In the United States, ENPC is considered one of Europe's Ivy League Schools.

The Fox School of Business was recognized for the 5th consecutive year for its strength in International Business rising to 14th in the nation. Since 2003, Fox graduate International Business Programs have been ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s top 25. The Fox School’s strength in International Business placed the School tied at 14th in the nation with Stanford University and the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.

I hope everyone else has wonderful news about their future, no matter where it takes you :)
P.S. Does anyone have an extra penny so I can afford this $60,000 Program?!
